HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON YOUR WATER BILL

When it comes to monthly expenses, water can cost a lot. During the summer months, the constant need for refreshment, the increase in laundry and breaking out the hose shouldn’t break the bank. Here’s how you can save some money on your water bill.

Audit your pipes

The first thing you need to do is take a good look at all your pipes, perhaps with an expert. Make sure they’re in good, working order. Look for problems like dripping, excessive rust or more serious leakage. Sometimes, it’s a simply issue of the taps not being turned off all the way, other times, it indicates a bigger issue.

Check out your drains

Don’t wait until it’s too late to check out and clean your drains. Before they get clogged or stop doing their job, it’s important to take preventive measures to keep them as clean and clear as possible.

Once a month, try pouring a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar down your drains. If you notice a lot of hair going down, buy your household a strainer.

Be on the lookout for fat, oil and other things that don’t belong in the drain from going down. Look for other alternatives and be sure to dispose of it properly so that it doesn’t coat your drains.

Don’t forget about your toilet

How does your toilet flush? Does it make strange sounds? If so, you might have drainage issues. If your drains were installed a long time ago, they might need some upgrades. Call in the experts to make sure the job is done effectively.
